MEET DR. JOEY WEBER

THE EQUANIMITY ENTHUSIAST

About Dr. Joey

Dr Joey developed and validated one of world’s first psychometric scales that solely focuses on the construct of equanimity - the Equanimity Barriers Scale [EBS] in 2018. His research (spanning 6 years) includes operational definitions of inner and outer equanimity relevant for clinical psychology, theoretical models of judgement and the validation of the EBS. He has recently published a book entitled 'Why Mindfulness is not Enough: Unlocking Compassion with Equanimity', which is an overview of his research and includes case studies and guided meditations in order to bring equanimity down from the mystical and into the lap of the practical.

About the Equanamee Method

Dr Joey who is a long-term practitioner and spent his early years living in a Tibetan monastic community believes he has designed a model for everyone to cultivate equanimity. The Equanamee method helps individuals and groups unpack why we discriminate ands how to find compassion. Dr Joey is dedicated to instructing business and individuals seeking to improve themselves and their empathy and compassion using the Equanamee method. The method is made up of self-assessment of the Equanimity Barriers Scale, implementing the 7-step method and guided meditations.

The Equanamee Method

YOUR 7 STEPS TO CULTIVATE EQUANIMITY

The path to equanimity is comprised of these simple steps. Our Equanamee Method is made up of a guided meditiation and the development of self-awareness and compassion. Start your journey now.

1. Recognize your categorizations

Despite it being human nature (categorizing things into good, bad or neutral) this does not always mean it is healthy. Becoming aware of how we categorize everything is a crucial first step.

2. Deepen awareness of the identification process

After awareness, comes a loosening of your identification net. Our likes, dislikes and neutralities influence us only if we allow them too. Heightened awareness enables you to disidentify with your categories.

3. Let it go

Being mindful of how phenomenon are transient moments in time rather than a fixed and rigid reality enables us to not dwell so much and assist us in advancing our journey.

4. Look inwards

Equanimity enables you to observe your psychological makeup as it occurs. Give your fullest and compassionate attention towards everything regardless of the type of thought or experience.

5. Turn it outwards

Appreciating that others must harbor the same mental processes and emotions in varying intensities, can help you to empathize with others and act more compassionately.

6. Cultivate compassion

Understanding how these categories bind our opinions and the opinions of others and seeking to work with our bias’s is a significant step in growing our compassion.

7. Create a new relationship with yourself

Regulate your emotions, mentally protect yourself and actively cultivate positive mental states.

"Joey was highly recommended to me when I was looking for a meditation teacher. I've done individual and group meditation before, but I've never had somebody explain the 'why' in detail. Joey's experiences and studies makes learning with him enjoyable and fun. He's filled with unexpected insights and I look forward to our customized one-on-one sessions online."

"I started my research because of my friendship with Priscilla, without knowing where I was going with it. I had never heard of the word equanimity. Since then my life has changed a lot. My relationship with the world and people has totally changed. And I feel happy to be following this path. I am happy to have met you and share our work. I vibrate with your successes that inspires me a lot. Not only because it is good work, but because it makes perfect sense for all of humanity."

“Having now completed the module you have delivered for the staff I too have learned a great deal on both a personal and professional level. The module has helped me to develop skills for a more contemplative approach to my teaching and learning which is something I had not previously considered. The skills and techniques for mindfulness I have realised are not purely gained for the purpose of self-indulging meditation. I have been provided with the skills to contemplate, reflect and consider a more balanced approach to my own practice and also in considering the challenges that students face whilst working and studying in high pressure environments. In essence I have had the opportunity to explore my own teaching and learning on a completely different level which has not only helped personally but I can see clearly links closely to the expectations for professional practice outlined in the NMC code of conduct.”
